Die UN-Organisationen schlagen Alarm: Die Lebensmittelpreise steigen seit Monaten und können so global zu Hungersnöten und sozialen Unruhen führen. Hinzu kommt in einem zweiten Bericht, dass die Menschheit sich ganz dringend anders ernähren muss: Die Landwirtschaft bedroht 86% der vom Aussterben bedrohten 28,000 Tierarten laut Chatham Report. Vor Allem der Fleischkonsum sorgt für weiteren Raubbau.
Aber auch das Wachsen der Erdbevölkerung dürfen wir nicht außer Acht lassen. Der Bedarf an Lebensmitteln steigt.
Uns in Europa darf das nicht gleichgültig lassen. Denn mit weiterem Raubbau und dem dadurch verursachten Aussterben von Tierarten ist mit weiteren Viren und Krankheiten zu rechnen, die auf den Menschen übertragen werden. Ebenso wird der Klimawandel gestärkt und dieser verstärkt wiederum die Konflikte weiter auf der Erde, führt also zu Kriegen und Fluchtwellen. Die Situation eskaliert.

- A new Chatham House report highlights that the global food system is the primary driver of biodiversity loss.
- Biodiversity loss will continue to accelerate, unless we change the way we produce food. Further destruction of ecosystems and habitats will threaten our ability to sustain human populations.
- The new report calls for an urgent reform of food systems, suggesting three interdependent actions: changing global dietary patterns, protecting and setting aside land for nature, and farming in a more nature-friendly and biodiversity-supporting way.
- Policy makers are urged to take a system-wide approach to account for the impacts of food systems, develop global guidance for change, and translate this to national targets.
